lessons learned:
The ultimate goal/purpose of this website was to provide construction/roadwork updates to an audience spanning ~160k individuals (regional population). This project affected a large corridor of a widely used street system with a history of pedestrian, bike and vehicle accidents.
The site was made with the sole purpose of providing current updates and conveying project information to users of all types. The site had to be easily accessible for all. Content can always be made more clear. Clarity is key.
solutions: small changes, big effects
home page: In order to provide more clarity, the home page should be updated to include a "status update" section to showcase the most important information at the top of the page and limit the need to scroll (especially for the mobile version). A page break should be added to differentiate between "current" and "historical" construction status updates to prioritize more recent information. Dates should be made more prominent to indicate importance. An FAQ page should also be added.
mobile site: To improve the mobile experience, the PNG construction timeline image should be changed to a link to a PDF or other high quality document to improve legibility of text labels.
