personal case study: a designer who can wear a lot of hats

A non-traditional path, an amalgamation of professional and personal experience that directly relates to the field of UX, a talent for creativity, a unique perspective, a storyteller, a problem solver, a great designer.
problem statement: what you're looking for
Your team needs a designer with a unique/"non-traditional" background because diversity brings both a unique perspective and a unique passion and drive. Your team needs a designer who has worn and can wear a lot of hats.
design process: the hats & the skills they bring

the visual Designer: My professional graphic design experience includes the creation of print / digital brochures, presentation handouts, posters, powerpoint presentations, merchandise, conference materials, business proposals, advertisements, email campaigns, large scale print jobs such as trail wayfinding, as well as foundational visual design skills such as layout, typography, iconography and color theory. I am also an illustrator and animator.
the Customer Service guru:15+ years in customer service roles taught me how to navigate situations and interact with people of all backgrounds. Working in customer service was hands-on human experience (CX) that I can apply directly to the UX space.
the Empath: Exercising empathy is important to me personally - employing empathy strategies in my own life is something that I believe is extremely important - being able to build on this practice at work is something that I find wildly intriguing and invaluable. I understand the importance of valuing the perspectives of others, and though it can be challenging at times, I look forward to pushing myself to be open to embrace and understand those perspectives as best I can.
the continuous learner: From art classes at CU as an employee to post-grad community college classes to build a foundation in graphic design, to online learning courses and professional certificates in UX, I am dedicated to my personal and professional learning and growth and empowered to continue learning for the rest of life.
the Psychologist: B.A. in Psychology - psychology has always interested me - learning how it plays a role in UX design, throughout the entire process, including the research phase is fascinating and therefore something that I know I can be cognizant of and build on, specifically my awareness of my personal biases and ways to mitigate them.
the strong Communicator: Successful communication is key to a successful relationship of any type. My professional experience includes communicating with various stakeholders (clients, coworkers, teams/departments as well as project and site managers).

the outcome: all those hats = a highly adapatable designer
I come from a tiny startup with only 4 employees; from this I learned to be a highly adaptable quick-study who can evolve to fill any role needed for the company (wear any hat). Building a company from the ground up with a team of only 3 other passionate coworkers in a niche industry, (as well as being on a design team of 1), I met every challenge/request with aplomb. I was our design team, HR advisor, technical writer, website builder, marketing lead, customer service rep, business development strategist, researcher, expert problem solver. This experience instilled a self-confidence and level of adaptability within me that I am able to apply to any challenge or problem.
I am new to the world of UX design, but I believe that my background, an amalgamation of customer service, research, project management, customer service and design, weird as it is, is ideal for this work. I have recently discovered something that I believe I am inherently talented at and have genuine interest in - because of this, I am eager to dive in, learn more and hone my skills.
